Baby language development is important in the early life as it is one of the most important forms of stimulation a baby gets. When babies hear your voice, they activate the sense of hearing, social, emotional and linguistic areas on the brain. They can define speech phonemes and detect more speech sounds than what you think. When a baby start babbling, it means they try to pronounce sounds they have listened. Therefore, early stimulation is important for future language and vocabulary success. What you can do is simply talking to your baby early and regularly with clear and positive tones. Show the name of an object or people's feelings, especially when related to your baby's own attempts to speak or express emotion. You should use expression and vary your pitch when talking to improve baby speech. However, you have to avoid speaking which can make your baby confuse. It is always best to teach them to speak well. Then, it is better if you do not limit your vocabulary to simple and short words because your baby should listen to all words to learn them. Of course you should speak in baby understanding level with little variation. If it is required, you can repeat same phrases over again help them connect sound and meaning. Language development is the duty of the left side brain whereas the right side of the brain is responsible for musical quality which is also important in developing verbal communication. Studies have reported that girls tend to talk a few months earlier than boys because girls tend to divide language functions more equally between left and right sides of the brain. As parents you can best expose your baby with language during the relatively critical time in their early life. The reason is simply because of the plasticity of the young nervous system that makes the baby can absorb much information fast. Newborns can actually get speech better with their right ear and distinguish musical tones better with their left ear. |
